Add Ability To Have A Key Switch Directly To A Chosen Input Method

Being able to set a key to switch directly to a specific input method chosen in settings.

Use case

I've recently changed from using FUTO for my voice input to BiBi Keyboard Pro. Within BiBi Keyboard, I have set a key that takes me straight to LeanType for my typing. So knowing that it's possible, I am now hoping to set a similar key within LeanType to take me direct to BiBi Keyboard for my voice input.

Unfortunately, that option only ever gives me a list of inputs to choose from (i.e. requires a second interaction) or goes to the Samsung Keyboard. The solution I mean would be to switch straight from LeanType to BiBi Keyboard (or I guess whichever input the user sets).

Weird. Where did you manually select the input method it switches to sorry? And do you have more than two input methods enabled? I have 5 enabled which causes it to produce a list.

Oh that is no problem, I love customizing my setups — probably a little too much, honestly ha!

I've already enjoyed customizing LeanType this far, having used my custom HeliBoard settings as a baseline.

The past few days, I've kept going back to it, trying to set it so a single keypress switches LeanType directly to BiBi Keyboard Pro. However, despite getting my hands dirty (digitally speaking), I can't seem to find the right settings to make that happen.

I even tried limiting my active input methods to three (matching your setup), but without a specific option in LeanType to explicitly choose which keyboard it should switch to, it just defaults to the Samsung Keyboard — by the way Samsung Keyboard, you're ADOPTED!.

Would it help if I shared a screen recording of what happens, to see where I might be going wrong sorry?

i get it what you mean since you 5 keyboards enabled, long press spacebar and select the input seems slow, so want to have an way to faster switch, currently there are two issue i am checking, 1: samsung have some restrictions 2: the switching mostly handled by the android system not by the app, lets see if there is an workaround

OK so when I their following LeanType options:

1. "Language switch key" = enabled
2. "Language switch key behaviour" = "Switch to other input methods"

It does not give me the "Direct Switch Target IME" setting as you've shown in your screenshot, for some reason.

Yeah, their functionality is definitely possible as it stands. I say that because I have the very exact same functionality correctly set up on the BiBi Keyboard Pro input method — its just in reverse execution, I.e. BiBi Keyboard Pro > LeanType, instead of LeanType > BiBi Keyboard Pro.

To help show it, here's a screenshot of the two options in BiBi Keyboard Pro's Settings:

However, that said, I wouldn't know even remotely where to start in regards to implementing it from a coding point of view.

Hopefully the screenshot/recording may help a little more when it comes to your far superior professional knowledge & experience though ha :L — I'll assist in more of a supporting role. I'll cheer you on 🙂.
